Something that I find to be particularly interesting about telenovelas is how they manage to all be so different, while still following the same “rules” of the classic television genre. Telenovelas follow typical story structure in many ways, including how they have a main protagonist and antagonist. In every telenovela, the protagonist is a gorgeous character who is pure and typically on the poor side. He/she will meet the show's love interest, who is also gorgeous, but normally much more on the wild side and typically very wealthy. This love story is the general plot line throughout the many episodes of a telenovela.
Telenovelas tend to run for very long amounts of time (many episodes), and they manage to keep the audience hooked the entire way through. It is fascinating to me how they are able to do this, when the general premise of the genre is so predictable. Telenovelas have happy endings, typically one including a wedding between the two gorgeous main characters, but the ups and downs that occur in the middle are what make it so entertaining. Just when the audience might think things are going well for the main couple, disaster will almost always strike. The way telenovelas manage to all be so different while following this main structure is because of the crazy plot-twists that they all contain. There is such a broad variety of storylines within the telenovela TV genre, and no limit to what crazy things you can find within the episodes.
I also love how telenovelas can be so similar yet so different. I believe its easy for telenovelas to keep audiences hooked because you do not need to have previous knowledge to understand and enjoy the show. It is easy to just flip on an episode without knowing all the buildup and still understand what is going on. That's personally what I love about telenovelas, because it requires minimal effort from its viewers. I also love how even though telenovelas are virtually the same they still create insane stories between their characters.
